Urgent notice regarding MLS fees for IDX data feeds
Over the past year many MLS organizations have begun implementing fees for IDX data feeds. We, with our equipment and as part of our service to you, download those feeds to power your web-sites and/or extranets with listing information. In all cases, the cost of the MLS data feed is passed along to the brokerage as it is not priced into our product. While many MLS' charge a reasonable fee for doing this, several have come out with exorbitant fees, some in the tens of thousands, which are completely out of line with the situation. You, the brokerage, provide your data to the MLS in the spirit of co-operation that the MLS system was founded upon and you should have the right to obtain that information electronically at a reasonable cost. With declining memberships, it appears that these MLS' are not focusing on cutting costs but rather are trying to obtain new sources of revenue. Unfortunately, we cannot provide that revenue to them as we are simply returning the information to you for your benefit, not for ours. It would be in the interest of each and every broker to understand what these fees are and how they are being set. We encourage you to contact your local MLS and ask these questions. |
